Whose Eyes Are These? Capstone
Examines a variety of animal eyes, noting how they look different and function in different ways. Animals shown include a zebra, a tiger, a housefly, a crocodile, a ghost crab, a snake, and an eagle. Editorial Reviews Review Whose Eyes Are These? is part of an intruiguing series on animal organs that will help primary students begin to understand classification and adaptations. Students begin by guessing the animal attached to a colorfully illustrated set of eyes, then continue reading to learn about the complete animal. The series format makes it ideal for generating active involvement from your read-aloud circle. Fun facts about the various animals add interest to each page, as do riddles, listening questions, and activities. The text ends by describing the eyes of a child. For independent readers, a ""Words to Know"" section reviews new vocabulary, and a list of additional text resources and websites is provided. An index at the end of each book makes it easy to find pages about a specific animal. This series would have many applications in the primary grades. Its science content encourages students to think about the relationship of structure to function in living things. The style of text and presentation make them particularly valuable in a multi-age classroom. Older students could read aloud to the younger students and encourage them to guess the animal from the charming illustrations of the body part. Very young children will be enthralled by the illustrations and may simply want to guess the animal, while older students will find the content information fascinating. The animals are presented factually and are not anthropomorphized, which is a nice change from so many books for this age group. I highly recommend Whose Eyes Are These? for primary science. --NSTA Recommends About the Author Peg Hall is a Capstone Press author. --This text refers to the Library Binding edition.
