Lets Read And Find Out Science Fireflies In The Night Stage 1
"[In] a revision of the 1963 edition, [a] brief, clearly written text [tells of a young girl who] learns some interesting facts about fireflies from her grandfather. Alexander uses richly hued pastels for her illustrations of the young girl, her grandparents' farm, and the creatures of a summer night."-SLJ. Editorial Reviews From School Library Journal PreSchool-Grade 2-- Hawes's first-person narrative is a revision of the 1963 edition (HarperCollins). Alexander uses richly hued pastels for her illustrations of a young girl, her grandparents' farm, and the creatures of a summer night. While visiting the farm, the girl learns some interesting facts about fireflies from her grandfather. The colorful drawings and appealing cover represent the major changes in the book; the original edition featured a young boy. The brief, clearly written text is thorough enough to satisfy its intended audience. Julie Brinckloe's Fireflies! (Macmillan, 1985), for the same age group, is a softly illustrated, very readable story of a young boy catching fireflies with his friends at dusk. Joanne Ryder's Fireflies! (HarperCollins, 1977) is by far the most informative easy-reader on the life cycle of this unusual insect. --Susan Scheps, Shaker Heights Public Library, OH Copyright 1992 Reed Business Information, Inc. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
